This review is LONG OVERDUE. I read Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson way back in February 2021. I have continued to think about it and recommend it regularly ever since. It is a heart-wrenching , masterfully written novel of historically significant fiction. It happened to be based on historical events and a former slave jail in my local area of Richmond, Virginia. It was my favorite book of 2021, and I dare say will live on the short list of my most favorite books ever.

The author Sadeqa Johnson, has written other novels, however this was her debut in the genre of historical fiction. You could tell she did an extensive amount of research in order to bring these harsh realities to the page and honor to these female heroes. She has a gift for the genre I’ve hardly seen. I was so hopeful she would write another work of historical fiction and lo and behold she heard me…her second historical fiction book was just released earlier this month. It was Reese’s Book Club pick this month, what an honor, and has made her a first time New York Times bestselling author. I have already read it and will post my full review soon, but I can already tell you that you should definitely read it too!
